Each year, the New Zealand Fire Service (FENZ) attends over 5,000 structural fires...which includes both residential and commercial buildings.

Data historically shows that roughly 30 to 33 percent of the residential fires FENZ attends, working smoke alarms were either missing or not operational.  FENZ responds to an average of 4,159 residential house fires specifically triggered by unattended cooking each year. (Source)

The alarms that they supply are endorsed by the NZ Fire Service, and have a photoelectric Cell which has a 10 year life. It is still recommended that you test your smoke alarms on a regular basis.

We Recommend...

• Test Once a month - Press the test button to sound the alarm. (Use a broom handle if you can't reach the button).​

• Dust every six months - Vacuum or dust your smoke alarms to help avoid false alarms.​

• Check every year - Check the expiry date, usually located on the bottom or side of the alarm. If there's no expiry date, it's best to replace the alarm. If you have a 9V battery alarm, replace the battery every year. Your alarms will start to beep regularly if the battery is low - a great time to call us and arrange installing new units throughout your home.
